Layout7

AI that understands your largest codebase.
Tame complexity of your software systems, however modern or legacy.

Use cases

Onboard engineers fast, even onto legacy systems

New hires and senior engineers waste weeks figuring out sprawling codebases. Layout7 helps them understand any part of the system, regardless of their existing context.

Empower every engineer to work like Staff+, across the whole codebase

Staff+ engineers must navigate unfamiliar code for cross-cutting projects, but knowing where to start is often the hardest part. Layout7 gives every engineer instant understanding of any system, enabling them to tackle complex, cross-team initiatives with confidence.

Stop maintaining docs. Trust the code.

Documentation goes stale as soon as it’s written. Layout7 stays in sync with your codebase, making the code the living source of truth.

Scale your CTO’s vision across the company

Generic LLMs give risky advice because they don’t know your systems. Layout7 lets CTOs encode company-specific guidelines and combines them with deep code understanding, ensuring every team makes decisions aligned with your technical strategy.

Put deep code knowledge into the tools you already use today

Go beyond chat. Use Layout7’s API to power IDE plugins, internal search, and developer platforms with the same deep understanding of your systems.

Frequently asked questions

What does Layout7 do?

Layout7 helps engineers quickly understand any part of a software system, from granular implementation details ("How does the payment retry logic work?") to high-level architectural ones ("Which services would be affected if I change this API?"). It’s designed for both onboarding new hires and enabling Staff+ engineers to navigate complex, cross-team projects.

How does Layout7 work?

Layout7 continuously ingests your codebase as commits are made, so it understands the current state of the system. It then exposes this intelligence through standard OpenAI-compatible endpoints, making it easy to integrate into chat interfaces, IDEs, or internal developer tools. Coming soon, Layout7 will also ingest Git history to explain how and why systems evolved, and connect to company-internal wikis and chat platforms to incorporate institutional knowledge alongside the code.

How is Layout7 different from Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot?

These tools are optimized for writing code. They intelligently load just enough context at runtime to complete specific coding tasks. Layout7 instead builds and maintains a long-term model of your entire technical architecture. This lets engineers dive into any system and get answers that go beyond code completion, making it a knowledge platform rather than a coding assistant.

Who's behind Layout7?

Layout7 is being built by a Principal Engineer from Amazon with deep experience in building and maintaining large-scale technical systems. At Amazon, Principal Engineers are responsible for designing architecture across massive codebases and coordinating work across dozens of teams. That experience revealed a critical gap: while existing tools help developers write code, they don't scale beyond a certain point. That realization is what led directly to the creation of Layout7.
